On September 13, you will think that you have stepped back in time on Main St. in Hiram. Our theme is Maine History, and the following activities have been planned (rain or shine) just for you! 
  • Wayne O'Donal will have his handmade birch bark canoe on display...just like the Native Americans made!
  • Colonial  Blacksmith
  • Apple Cider Press
  • Basket Weaving Demonstration
  • The Art and History of Quilting
  • Wool Carding
  • Rug Hooking Demonstration
  • Making Homemade Butter
  • Penny Candy and Old Fashioned Snacks Sale
  • "Maine" Story Hour at the library
  • Old-time Favorite Games
  • Blueberry Pie Eating Contest
  • Anything Apple Baking Contest - Bring a baked item that has apples as the main ingredient. It must be thoroughly cooled and must not need refrigeration.
  • Tours of Mt. Cutler Museum of Hiram
  • Photo and Drawing Contests - If a picture is worth a thousand words, then a photo or a drawing should be able to say one word. That word is "Maine".  Pictures should be matted.
  • Presentations at the Historical Society:
     -Log driving on the Saco River by Sally Williams
     -Film (In The Blood) Maine Logging Camps in Northern Maine
     -First hand stories about the Maine fires of 1947
     -The Impact of plants on New England History by author, June O'Donal
......and Much, Much More!!!
Plan Ahead for the Event
Cost: We are striving to make all of the events free of charge. Everyone involved is donating their time and talents to provide homeschoolers with a fun-filled learning experience! Please do take note of the donation jars at the Historical Society and the Library.
Preregistration: Please pre-regsiter for activities and classes by emailing Space is limited.
Location and Directions: To find us, put 2 Sebago Rd., Hiram, Maine into your GPS. This is the address for Four Corners Store across the street from the village green/park.
Lunch: Bring a lunch and blanket, and join everyone in the park for a picnic at noon!!
Dress: For extra fun, dress in historical costumes, or come as you are! 
Vendors: Be prepared with cash or checks for vendors. Debit card use may not be available. Let them know you appreciate their particpation by purchasing their goods!
